A Work In Progress

My partner Lito Ornelas and I have spent the past couple of weeks working on our advertising entry to the NBC 12 competition. We have done about 20% of the work so far and I already know I made a really good decision taking advantage of this opportunity.
Would winning $2000 and meeting with the best of the best in the advertising industry make me the happiest girl in America? Yes. But I have decided not to stress over the question of winning or losing. Doing so will only take away from the energy I need to direct into doing a good job with this project.

So far, working on making the ad has been eye opening and a whole lot of fun! In order to portray downtown Richmond in the best light possible, we have to go downtown and discover what's awesome about it for ourselves. We have walked all the way from the Jefferson hotel down to the Martin Agency, the James river, the Capitol, and a bunch of other cool places on the way. In order to complete this project, we are seeing and experiencing things in Richmond that we have not had the chance to before. And we absolutely love it!

Doors Doors Doors

Since I have been back from my trip overseas, I have been diving into my job search with full force. I am a strong believer that things do not always happen like we expect them to. I know that everything happens for a reason, and that if a door closes, it might mean that a much better one is about to open.
Right now I am staring into a very pretty door.

I came across an exciting opportunity last week that I am really looking forward to working on. NBC12 is holding an advertising competition to see who can come up with the best commercial to showcase what is new and exciting about downtown Richmond.
It took me exactly 1.5 seconds to decide that this is something I want to take part in. Other than the fact that the first place winner earns $2000 and exposure to the biggest agencies in the city; I really do love Richmond and think that it has a lot to offer.
River city gets a lot of bad rep from people who say that there is nothing to do here. The problem with that is that everyone compares it to other major cities when it really should not be compared. With all the history and soul that Richmond has, it can stand on its own as a vibrant beautiful place to live.

My good friend Lito Ornelas and I have decided to take on this challenge together. Working as a team in the past has always resulted in top notch work that we are very proud of. We hope we can carry the momentum into this new adventure.

There is a lot riding on this experience, but Lito and I have already agreed that even if we don't get anything from this competition; we will still come out with a great piece of work to add to our portfolios. That alone is enough motivation for us to do the best we can. So with this we will start working, hoping that this is anything but another closed door.

Updates coming soon!
